Olympic Ads: Going for Gold in Commercials
Durham, NC - When you think of the Olympics, Brim coffee doesn't come directly to mind. And Eriq La Salle may have been convincing as a hunky doctor on "ER" but he was less so as a gold medalist who brings Bud drinkers to tears.
Nevertheless, when the Olympics come along, advertisers are going to try their products to the games. Some of the results are part of AdViews, the collection of classic television commercials collected online by the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.
Most people won't remember these. It may be true that it's difficult to make memorable Olympic commercials. It may just be however, that Brim couldn't find an actress who could pull off a convincing French-Canadian accent.
But none of these commercials stick seem as memorable as faux Olympic ads, such as this one from Saturday Night Live, where John Belushi channels current Karadashian step-father Bruce Jenner in a commercial for "Little Chocolate Donuts."
