Child Care Openings at On-Site Duke Facilities
About 40 spots are available for children up to 5-years old
When Esin Acikgoz and her husband, Serhan, traveled from Turkey to Durham this summer, the Duke graduate students had to find daytime child care for their toddler, Kerem.
Esin, a daytime MBA student at the Fuqua School of Business, and Serhan, a graduate student at the Sanford School of Public Policy, traveled around Durham visiting child care centers. They found the right fit at the Duke Children's Campus. They placed Kerem on a waiting list in April and were able to enroll him in July.

"Kerem spends about eight hours at the Children's Campus during the day, and I know he learns a lot and has an enjoyable time with his friends and teacher. The campus is also near our house, so time is not an issue in the mornings or evening."
Duke faculty and staff and graduate students with children now have the opportunity to join either the Duke Children's Campus or The Little School at Duke without any wait. Duke recently updated the waiting list for the on-site facilities, and there are currently 15 openings at the Children's Campus on Alexander Avenue and 23 open spots at The Little School on Hull Avenue.
Available spots are open to children from three months to 5-years old and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment is only open to Duke employees and graduate students. Tuition assistance may be available as long as certain criteria are met. Interested parents should contact the Duke Children's Campus or Little School directly. Tours of each facility can also be scheduled.
"We're really excited about having more families join us and getting to know more Duke families," said Christa Niven, co-owner of The Little School at Duke. "We're only a month old, but our school feels like we've been around for a long time because of the relationships we've built."
Last year, the Duke Children's Campus earned a five-star license - the highest available - from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The Little School at Duke hasn't been open long enough to receive a license rating, but its managing center - the Little School of Hillsborough - also has received a five-star license.
