Hometown: Fuquay-Varina, North CarolinaYear: Class of 2015Christine was caught recycling clothes via the Duke Fashion Exchange. What made you interested in the Duke Fashion Exchange? How did you hear about it?I love clothes, I love to shop, and I love thrifting.  This is basically a thrift store with a lot of students, where you can find a lot of deals.  Someone invited me to it on Facebook. What other things do you do in your everyday life to be sustainable?Well at my work-study job, one of my everyday responsibilities is to do the recycling.  I also always recycle on my own, I always make sure that when water is dripping in the bathroom, it gets turned off, and I turn off lights and things like that. What sustainable efforts have you noticed around campus?I think Duke does a really good job of having recycling bins next to things.  I love the signs on the lights and stuff. If you could change one thing on campus to make it more sustainable, what would it be?It seems like there’s a lot of wasted food, and it would be nice if there was some way to donate it rather than throwing it away, though I know there are health regulations and things. What do you think is the best way to spread the sustainability message?I think making things really visible is important, like making sure that next to every trashcan there’s a recycling bin. I think the signs are a really good thing because when things are visible people start to think about them. Will you be caught green handed next? Caught Green Handed is an initiative of Students for Sustainable Living created to reward sustainability actions at Duke. Get caught doing something eco-friendly, and receive great prizes including t-shirts, stainless steel water bottles and reusable grocery bags!  It's simple, just take actions throughout the day to reduce your environmental footprint and with a little luck, you could be Caught Green Handed! The contest will continue on a twice monthly basis throughout the fall semester.
