Welcome to the Week at Duke in 60 Seconds.

Last Friday, President Brodhead, Provost Sally Kornbluth, and Trinity Dean Valerie Ashby convened a conversation with the Duke community about race, diversity and inclusion.  Many students spoke about their experiences as minorities at Duke, and made suggestions to improve the climate on campus.

Last weekend, the annual Awaaz performance showcased more than 600 students from 13 student groups through music, dance, and other art forms. The show focused on South Asian culture, but brought together all of Duke.

Recently, former Duke basketball star Nolan Smith could be seen at football games interacting with fans and taking selfies with them. Smith has been volunteering with Duke Athletics’ social media accounts.

Lastly, students and Facilities Management staff planted 17 trees to celebrate Duke’s “Tree Campus USA” designation. This is Duke’s 7th year to be recognized for its commitment to sustainability and a tree care program.
